In the Huastec town of “Lomas de Vinazco”, Veracruz, a singular festival with nahuas reminiscences is carried out.
.

“It is Sunday of carnival and various native children nahuas from among 6 and 11 years of age are prepared to take part at the party of mecotitla: during the following four days they will represent to the mecos with all their bodies painted in black. For the natives of this region, the “Mecos” that means dirty, bordered or painted are the main performers.

The equipment of the mecos consists only of a pair of shorts, some they go barefoot and they carry a conical cap concluded with color paper strips and they carry machetes of wood painted of red, green and black.

Sunday and Monday of carnival the “Mecos” stain them in black.
